Topic

This term our topic is Beside the Seaside. In this topic we will learn how Brighton has changed over time and explore the lives of some key figures from Brighton's history, including the Prince Regent, Martha Gunn and the three African kings who visited Brighton during the Victorian period. We will also be taking a trip to Brighton Pavilion to enrich our learning for this topic and to learn about the impact of the Royal Pavilion on the city of Brighton. Our topic will also see us explore the key geographical features of Brighton, looking particularly at human and physical features, and use our map skills to construct a map of the area using basic symbols in a key.

PE

PE will be with me (Miss Clark) on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Please ensure that the children come into school on these days wearing their school PE kit: shorts or tracksuit bottoms (depending on the weather), trainers, school jumper or fleece.

Homework

Reading - We recommend 20 minutes a day for reading at home. 20 minutes reading every day will help build fluency and reinforce the daily reading at school.

Over the course of the week it is great to read material from a range of sources, including:

  • Colour banded books from school (these can be changed daily)
  • Library books (changed on Mondays)
  • Phonics book bag books (these need returning in line with the dates on the Fred Frog bookmarks)
  • The children's own books at home
  • Please send in the yellow reading records to school each day.

Maths - We recommend 10 minutes a day of number fluency practice (counting, times tables, practicing the four main operations. Top marks is a great website to use that has lots of fun math's games that the children enjoy, to help build fluency.
