Free School Meals

We'd like to remind all families to check if they are eligible to apply for Free School Meals (FSM) â€“ even if your child is currently in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 and already receives a universal free school meal from the Government.

Why does this matter?
When eligible families register for FSM, the school receives additional funding through the Pupil Premium. This funding helps us provide extra support, resources, and opportunities for all children – so even if your child already receives a free meal, registering could make a big difference to our school community.

Who is eligible for Free School Meals?
You may be able to apply if you receive any of the following:
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (as long as you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual gross income is no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • Universal Credit (with a household income of less than £7,400 per year after tax and excluding benefits)
Children who receive these benefits in their own right are also eligible.
Please note: If you are currently receiving Working Tax Credit, you are not eligible to apply.

How to apply
If you think you may be eligible, please apply as soon as you can by October online via the Brighton & Hove City Council website:
